Dr. Nicola Darwent joins us at Westminster Women’s Clinic as a distinguished General Practitioner with extensive expertise in women’s health, paediatrics, mental health, and acute medical presentations.
Dr Darwent graduated with Honours from Leeds Medical School in 2007, where she received the prestigious Wolfson Prize for outstanding academic achievement. Additionally, she earned Honours for a Bachelor of Science in International Health in 2005, during which she conducted original research on postnatal depression in the antenatal population of Cape Town, South Africa.
Dr Darwent further honed her skills in Anaesthetics training in Northwest London, where she spent four years gaining comprehensive experience in the emergency room, operating theatres, intensive care units, and maternity suites. This rigorous training equipped her with profound expertise in recognizing and treating acutely unwell neonates, children, adults, and perinatal patients.
In 2012, Dr Darwent expanded her horizons by working in International Repatriation, a role she continues to this day. She has successfully conducted over 200 international patient retrievals from various global locations, showcasing her ability to manage acute medical situations in diverse and challenging environments.
Returning to the NHS in 2016, Dr Darwent transitioned into General Practice in the Kensington and Chelsea area. Her exceptional skills in acute patient assessment and care naturally led her to GP roles within A&E, urgent care units, and acute GP hub clinics in West London.
Dr Darwent has worked for the last seven years within a prominent NHS GP surgery in South Kensington. Over this time, she has gained reputation for her expertise in women’s health and mental health and has enjoyed opportunity to educate local mental health teams in women’s health in their productive, antenatal and perimenopausal periods.
Outside of work, Dr Darwent lives with her husband and two young children. Her passion lies in creating adventure in the outdoors, both local and in any other country that she can convince them to trek to. She is a passionate foodie, loves to cook and play host for friends and family, and loves London for its fulfilment of her love for theatre and constant discovery.
