How do I choose my Obstetrician at Westminster Women’s’ Clinic?
As London’s largest Obstetric group practice, you have a choice of several obstetricians, subject to availability. You will remain under their individual care for the duration of your pregnancy. It is important to consider when choosing if you have a preferred hospital for delivery. Our affiliated hospitals can be found here.
If you would like assistance, please contact us and if you wish to provide some details or preferences we will be sure to help you in your choice.
Can I have my baby at Westminster Women’s Clinic?
Your baby will be delivered on the labour ward of your preferred Affiliated Hospitals by your Obstetrician.
Westminster Women’s Clinic is where you will attend for your antenatal appointments, pregnancy scans and blood tests.
When do we schedule in our first appointment together?
This will depend on when you wish to see us in your pregnancy journey.
From week 8 of the pregnancy, you will be able to book an appointment with one of our Obstetricians. You can also have an Early Pregnancy scan from week 6.
How many times will I visit the clinic during my pregnancy?
Our all-inclusive packages include all necessary antenatal appointments and a 6-week postnatal appointment. You will find an indicative schedule in when you book your Maternity Package, however this will be subject to change and availablity and will depend on your individual circumstances.
What happens if I wish to come for more appointments?
Your Obstetrician will advise what appointments are necessary from the commencement date of your personalised Maternity Package. If your Obstetrician indicates you require additional appointments these will be included. If you wish to have a face-to-face consultation with your Obstetrican prior to the commencement of your Maternity Package, you can book this and this will be charged separately.
What is the difference between having your baby within the NHS and private maternity care?
The NHS offers a wonderful option for care during your pregnancy and birth.
One of the greatest advantages of private maternity care is the continuity of care model, whereby you get to be seen by the same clinician throughout your pregnancy, who is also responsible for the delivery of your baby.
In addition, you will have access to either your Obstetrician or an alternative for any emergency needs.
Often private maternity care can make you feel more supported in your journey.
Can I just see an Obstetrician for individual appointments only, and still have my baby at my NHS hospital?
You can book in for ‘adhoc’ or individual Antenatal Appointments, and still continue to have your baby within the NHS.
Some of our Obstetricians offer this style of care.
You will pay for each appointment separately. After each consultation you will receive a correspondence letter that details the consultation.
Will my private health insurance cover the private maternity package?
Not all health insurance policies will cover private maternity. It is best you check with your provider for if they provide this coverage, and if you have any limits to the coverage.
I have heard I should be careful about unexpected expenses. What does this mean for the clinic’s packages?
Your all-inclusive includes antenatal appointments and routine pregnancy scans. Should you require or choose to have additional diagnostic or specialised tests, these will be charged separately.
Please note the delivery fees payable to the hospital and anaesthetist (if required) will be settled directly with them separately.
What does the after-hours roster mean for the Obstetricians?
Our Obstetricians form a roster after hours, enabling you to have access to an expert 24/7.
Our Obstetricians take leave and this will be communicated to you in advance. This also ensures that each Obstetrician is able to ‘rest’ and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Once you have confirmed a private maternity package, you will receive both your chosen Obstetrician’s contact details and the after hours contact details, so you have access at your fingertips.
How can I get in touch with my Obstetrician?
Once your Maternity Package has commenced you will receive all the relevant contact details for your Obstetrician. Depending on preferences, our Obstetricians can be reached via email, phone and WhatsApp.
Can my partner or family attend my antenatal appointments?
Yes. It is always best to let our team know if this will be the case so that we can register them as a visitor to the Clinic.
What should I expect when I come to my first appointment?
Your first appointment with your Obstetrician will be comprehensive.
It will involve a discussion of your pregnancy to date, including any previous tests and their results. In addition, questions will be asked about your previous fertility history, medical and surgical history, and family history which may be of relevance to your pregnancy.
In addition, you will have a set of vital signs performed by our health assistance which includes your blood pressure, and your urine be screened. The pregnancy will also be checked by the Obstetrician with our scanning equipment.
This appointment then provides time for you and your partner to ask any questions you have – whether it is just general pregnancy advice or more specifically about our pregnancy packages.
You will also then receive a letter summarising the above from your Obstetrician for your medical records.
Can I do the Harmony Test?
The Harmony Test is part of Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing.
At Westminster Women’s Clinic this is offered as an additional option to the private maternity package, and charged separately.
I need an urgent appointment during my pregnancy. Can I attend the clinic?
If you are signed up to a private maternity package at Westminster Women’s Clinic, you will have the contact details for your Obstetrician and the 24/7 on call Obstetrician.
If you are a patient delivering at The Portland Hospital, you will also be able to contact the Labour Ward and be seen as an emergency.
If you are not part of the clinic’s private Maternity Packages, then you must contact your local NHS maternity hospital to be seen as an emergency.
