At Westminster Women’s Clinic, our Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) Imogen Unger is dedicated to supporting your feeding journey through her holistic approach.
Appointments can be based in comfortable West London clinic, virtually, or in some circumstances home visits may also be feasible.
Antenatal Appointments
These appointments are designed to prepare you for your feeding journey, discussing breast, bottle and everything in between.
Preparation and managing expectations can go a long way to building your confidence. For birth parents, adoptive parents or other primary caregivers, this consultation is a great first step to understanding the early hours and days with your baby. Leaving you to confidently make informed choices and decisions, however you choose to feed your baby.
This appointment can be ideal before your baby is born, to help you prepare for the first few hours, days and weeks with your baby. A session will help with reducing any anxieties you may have, give you confidence and can be planned together helping you achieve your feeding goals. The content includes information on the mechanics of breastfeeding, positioning and attachment of baby, how to know if your baby is ‘getting enough’, mixed feeding, or exploring your previous breastfeeding journey and discussing any issues.
Postnatal Appointments
These appointments provide you with feeding support after your baby is born, whether it is in the newborn phase or at any stage along your feeding journey.
All forms of feeding – breast/chest, bottle or a mix – are supported, and Imogen will work with you to reach your goals in a supportive manner.
The appointments will build on your knowledge, encourage confidence and address any concerns. The content will be tailored to your individual journey so far and at a pace that you feel comfortable with and include a thorough history taking and observation of a feed. It can include support on positioning and attachment, a maternal breast or infant oral assessment if required, tips on practical management of breast or bottle feeing, low/over supply, low newborn weight gain, and alternative feeding methods such as finger feeding or cup feeding.
In addition, Imogen with her Senior Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse qualifications also specialises in preterm breastfeeding support.
