Anatomy Scan
The Anatomy Scan (also known as the “Anomaly Ultrasound”) is a scan performed between weeks 20-24 of the pregnancy by either a Fetal Medicine Specialist or one of our expert Sonographers.
This detailed scan includes:
- Examining your baby from head to toe, looking at all the formed organs in detail, screening them for any rare conditions.
- Taking the measurements of certain growth parameters such as head and abdominal circumference.
- Confirming the position of your placenta.
- Measuring the amniotic fluid to ensure it is within normal limits.
- Measuring the blood flow to the womb via the uterine artery will be which is used as a tool in screening for the condition pre-eclampsia.
If you have not confirmed the gender of the baby yet through NIPT, the gender can be revealed (if you choose) during this ultrasound.
If there are any abnormalities detected, this will be discussed with you on the day along with the next steps. We have an expert team at Westminster Women’s Clinic which includes highly trained Fetal Medicine Specialists who will be able to provide timely and expert advice.
You should allow 45 minutes for this appointment due to the high level of detail the Sonographer or Consultant needs to understand and analyse. Many of our patients include this scan to time with their ongoing appointments with their private Consultant Obstetrician, saving you time.
The Anatomy Scan is included in our all-inclusive Complete Pregnancy Package and 20-week Pregnancy Package, and when included in one of our private pregnancy packages will be undertaken by a Fetal Medicine Specialist.
The Anatomy Scan if booked separately is £300 with our Sonographer or £400 with our Fetal Medicine Specialists.
